Lichfield nurse disciplined for forging botox prescriptions

A MIDLAND nurse has received an official warning from medical bosses after forging Botox prescriptions for her beauty business. Louise Whiteman, from Lichfield, Staffordshire, was hauled before the Nursing and Midwifery Council for falsifying doctor’s notes so she could get more vials of the wrinkle-busting drug.

The hearing was told the nurse had already been sentenced to 26 weeks’ jail, suspended for 12 months, plus she was ordered to do 150 hours of unpaid work by the courts.

Whiteman, 41, had pleaded guilty at Stafford Crown Court in June 2008 to dishonestly making a false representation and making or supplying articles for use in fraud.

A Nursing and Midwifery Council (NWC) panel ruled the “serious offence” and conviction warranted a five-year caution order to her nursing record.

But they also said that the nurse had shown regret and “acknowledged her shame” for the offence.

When approached at her £352,000 five-bedroomed detached home by the Sunday Mercury, Whiteman refused to talk about the caution, adding: “I have nothing to say.’’

Evidence revealed the nurse had built up a business relationship with a doctor at Wigmore Medical Centre in central London to legitimately obtain Botox.

But instead of getting one vial of the drug, she was changing each prescription to obtain more of it until she was caught out in August 2007.

The offence came to light when the doctor discovered she had ordered five vials instead of one.

“Whiteman obtained Botox medication for 17 patients and in addition pre-prepared some 180 prescriptions to enable Botox to be obtained for her clients,” said a NMC spokeswoman.

“The reason why she obtained the medication in this way was to speed up the process for the benefit of her patients.

“This was a deception which was thought through. It only ceased when the registrant’s activities were noticed.

“Within 14 days of her arrest, she visited all 17 clients to explain what she had done.”

Whiteman told the hearing that she was suffering from stress at the time and that may have been a contributory factor.

The nurse has now retrained to be able to write her own prescriptions and works independently across Staffordshire doing Botox and other holistic treatments
