 In a recent educational evening hosted by MediZen at The Fairlawns Hotel, Dr David Eccleston and local Plastic Surgeon Ms CC Kat provided an update to an audience of over 70 people on the latest aesthetic treatments alongside practical advice about where to go for appropriate advice and treatment.Dr Eccleston and Annie Eccleston were also invited to lecture on, and demonstrate the use of, dermal fillers at the Facial Aesthetic Conference and Exhibition, which is the At both of these meetings concerns were raised about a new worrying industry trend involving the training of non-medically qualified people with injectable medical treatments.
Dr David Eccleston comments:
“The manufacturers of dermal filler treatments have always recommended that only medically qualified practitioners should be trained in the use of these products, and we ensure that we follow these guidelines in our training centre.
However, there is a bigger issue here in that clinics providing these treatments (irrespective of whether it’s a doctor or a beauty therapist) can operate without any clear guidelines regarding effective training of staff in the safe and effective use of these products”. The Healthcare Commission (part of the Department of Heath) currently only regulates clinics offering cosmetic surgery or laser treatments, and after a two year review they announced earlier this year that they wouldn’t add injectable cosmetic treatments to this list. As these treatments become more popular we feel that there is a real danger, due to lack of effective regulation, that we will see an increasing number of people with problems associated with poor injection technique with the wrong product!
