What is Non Surgical Nose Reshaping?

Non-surgical rhinoplasty is a nose reshaping treatment that uses a non-invasive, non-permanent, medical procedure in which injectable Dermal Fillers, most commonly hyaluronic acid like Juvederm and Restylane, is used to alter and shape a person's nose without surgery. The treatment can target a variety of alterations to nose shape such as filling in depressed areas on the nose, lifting the angle of the tip or smoothing the appearance of bumps on the bridge. However, it is an augmentation procedure, so it cannot reduce the size of the nose, reduce bulbous nose tip or make very wide nostrils smaller. For those concerns, a surgical rhinoplasty is usually required. As a ’non-permanent’ procedure treatment non-surgical nose reshaping has to be periodically repeated to maintain the shape and results that you desire.

Defects and shaping that can be treated include:

Before Non-Surgical Nose Reshaping Treatment

Before non-surgical nose reshaping treatment, we invite you to visit our medically led clinic in Sutton Coldfield, with easy transport links to surrounding areas such as Walsall, Lichfield, Tamworth and Birmingham. To be sure that Non-surgical nose reshaping is the most effective treatment for you, our clinical experts will explain the process, what results you can expect to achieve and any potential side effects to ensure that you have all the information before you decide whether to go ahead with treatment.

During your consultation, your nose will be assessed and we will review your detailed medical history and advise whether a Dermal Filler treatment to your nose is appropriate for you. If your nose is suitable for treatment our practitioner will tailor the best non-surgical nose reshaping treatment protocol, or a combination of protocols, to give you the best results possible.

During Non-Surgical Nose Reshaping Treatment

Your non-surgical nose reshaping treatment will take place in one of our modern treatment rooms and last for around an hour in total. Injecting the Dermal Filler typically takes around 20 to 30 minutes to perform after an initial 15 to 30 minutes of numbing with anaesthetic gel. After the procedure, you should be able to resume your normal day-to-day routine immediately. Modern Dermal Fillers contain some local anaesthetic in them, and this coupled with the application of the numbing gel before treatment and a light-handed technique, makes the procedure quick and painless. However, as everyone’s pain threshold is different any discomfort felt will vary from patient to patient but, as the procedure is fairly quick, this will only be for a very short amount of time and we do take every measure to ensure you are as comfortable as possible during the treatment.

After Non-Surgical Nose Reshaping Treatment

After your non-surgical nose reshaping your practitioner will discuss appropriate post-treatment advice with you which may include applying arnica cream, taking acrivastine (Benadryl Allergy Relief contains acrivastine) or bromelain and using hot compresses to help you recover as quickly as your body will allow. Immediately after treatment, there may be slight redness, swelling, tenderness and an itching sensation in the treated area. This is a normal result of the injection and delivery of the Dermal Filler. Cold compresses can be used to reduce any mild discomfort and lessen redness or any swelling which may occur. Avoid touching the treatment area for at least 6 hours after the treatment. After that, the area can be gently washed with soap and water and light make-up can be applied. Until the initial swelling and redness have resolved, do not expose the treated area to intense heat (e.g. solarium and sunbathing) or extreme cold. We also advise not to wear spectacles or sunglasses for at least 4 weeks following your nose enhancement. The Dermal Filler will still be malleable at this stage and the pressure from the nose pads could leave indentations at the point of contact with your nose. After 4 weeks, the Dermal Filler will be fully integrated and it will be ok to resume wearing glasses. You will be able to see the finished results of your treatment once any mild swelling or redness has disappeared. As hyaluronic acid is biocompatible and biodegradable it will be broken down and removed from the body naturally over time so the procedure is non-permanent. To maintain the desired results we usually recommend, repeat, maintenance treatments on a regular basis. We will discuss this with you in more detail after your treatment.

Non-surgical Nose Reshaping Side Effects

As with any other aesthetic procedures, possible complications of the procedure can include some injection-related side effects like redness, tenderness, swelling and bruising around the injection site. None of these are ever very serious and usually resolve in a matter of days if not hours. On extremely rare occasions, this condition may persist for longer, in the unlikely event that this happens you can contact us 24/7 on our dedicated helpline for reassurance and further advice. There is also a very unlikely chance of secondary infection, haematoma, discomfort, anatomic asymmetry, or foreign body reaction (called granulomas) although these are also extremely rare. The risk of blindness following non-surgical rhinoplasty, despite its exceptional rarity, remains an important material risk to the patient and will be covered in great detail during the consultation and consent process. After treatment full recovery is usual within 24/48hrs - though sometimes it may take a few days for any swelling to subside. Treating the nose with fillers is a highly advanced technique and not completely without risk; there are important blood vessels in this area and their accidental obstruction may have serious consequences, such as necrosis. At MediZen we consider it our duty to fully explain the pros and cons of any treatment we provide and will discuss in-depth your pre- and post-treatment aftercare during your consultation so you can continue your normal daily routine after treatment. Our practitioners have undergone extensive training, so you can be confident that they understand how to perform the procedure safely and effectively (you would think that every clinic could promise the same. Unfortunately, lack of effective regulation means that many providers undergo no training at all!)

Is Non-Surgical Nose-Reshaping Suitable for me?

Non-surgical nose reshaping or ‘liquid’ rhinoplasty is suitable for any patient with an aesthetic defect or a defect resulting from a surgical rhinoplasty (either primary or secondary). Although the procedure is usually performed for aesthetic purposes, it can also be used to correct some birth defects. Your suitability for non-surgical nose reshaping treatment will be discussed during your consultation with us and your practitioner will decide whether it is the most effective treatment approach to give you the results that you require.
