Seven years in A&E before aesthetics
Dr Perks graduated in Medicine from the University of Southampton and spent his first two years as a junior doctor in the Lake District. He then worked in emergency medicine across the UK and in Australia, spending seven years in A&E.
Emergency medicine is an unusual route into aesthetics and a genuinely useful one. Seven years of assessing people quickly, reading facial anatomy under pressure and recognising a complication before it becomes one builds exactly the instincts that matter in an injectables clinic. The rare occasions when something needs to be spotted early are the occasions that separate a safe practitioner from a lucky one.
Almost ten years of injectable practice
Dr Perks began working in aesthetic medicine in 2016 and left the NHS in 2020 to practise it full time. He has since worked in busy clinics in Liverpool, Glasgow, London and Manchester, treating the full range of injectable concerns.
His focus is full face rejuvenation and profile balancing. That means treating the face as a whole structure rather than correcting one line or one area in isolation, which is often why a result can look done rather than rested. The outcome he aims for is deliberately subtle: enhancing the way someone looks rather than altering it.
A trainer as well as a practitioner
In 2023 Dr Perks joined the expert faculty at Cosmetic Courses, where he teaches other medical professionals foundation and intermediate injectable technique, lip filler and non-surgical facelift technique.
Teaching a technique to other doctors and nurses is a different discipline from performing it. It demands that every placement can be explained, justified and repeated, which is a standard patients feel directly. It is the same standard MediZen’s founder, Dr David Eccleston, has applied to training the clinic’s own practitioners.
