Who is Secret PRO for?

Secret PRO suits you if your skin has started to show its history. It is for you if you want to reset its quality rather than keep covering it. Also, it is one of the most versatile resurfacing treatments we offer at MediZen. It works on the face and neck across a long list of concerns.

Most of the Birmingham and Sutton Coldfield patients who ask for it are dealing with one of these:

  • Acne scarring and pitted, uneven texture
  • Fine lines and early wrinkles around the eyes, mouth and forehead
  • Pigmentation, sun spots and dull, tired-looking skin
  • Enlarged pores and rough surface texture
  • Loss of firmness and mild laxity on the face and neck
  • Stretch marks and general photodamage

Of course, it is genuinely bespoke. Your practitioner adjusts the depth and energy to your skin. They can run the radiofrequency micro-needling and the CO2 laser together or on their own. So, it depends on what you actually want to change.

Who it isn’t for. If your acne is still active and inflamed, we settle that first, often with our AviClear acne laser. Then we resurface any scarring left behind. It is also not the right choice during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Nor does it suit the week or two before a big event when you cannot spare any downtime. In those cases a gentler option such as chemical peels may serve you better. We will tell you so honestly at your consultation.

What is Secret PRO?

Secret PRO is a dual-technology device made by Cutera, and its whole point is reach. Skin ageing does not happen on one level, so treating one level rarely fixes it. The CO2 laser works on the surface, creating a fine network of microscopic channels that lift away damaged cells. In turn they prompt a fresh, even layer of skin. Meanwhile, the radiofrequency micro-needling works underneath, sending heat deep into the dermis through very fine needles. This rebuilds the collagen and elastin that keep skin firm. Run together, they treat the outer and the deeper skin in one session.

The CO2 element is a fractional laser, which means it leaves most of the surface intact between those channels. That is what keeps healing quicker than the older, fully ablative lasers. Likewise, the radiofrequency element, known as Secret RF, is closely related to standard micro-needling. The important difference is that it adds targeted heat at depth for a stronger tightening and remodelling effect.

The real appeal of Secret PRO is how precisely it can be tailored to the person in the chair. So, the settings can be kept gentle for someone new to resurfacing. They can also be taken deeper for stubborn acne scarring, all on the same platform. The treatment is offered at MediZen under the clinical direction of Dr David Eccleston.

MediZen is one of only two clinics in Birmingham, and a small number in the UK, to offer Secret PRO. The treatment itself is carried out by our experienced skin specialists, in a clinic registered with the Care Quality Commission.

Smoothing acne scars and refining texture

Of course, acne scarring is one of the concerns Secret PRO handles best. Once the breakouts have settled, the marks they leave behind are really a texture problem. They are pitted, uneven skin that makeup sits in rather than hides. Then the CO2 laser resurfaces that surface while the radiofrequency micro-needling rebuilds support underneath. As a result, scars soften and the skin reads smoother and more even. The NHS has a clear overview of acne and the scarring it can leave. Still, it is worth a read if you want to understand what is happening in the skin.

The same collagen response that fills a scar also firms mild laxity, refines enlarged pores and softens fine lines. That is why people often notice their skin looking fresher all over, not just where they came in for. On pigmentation and sun damage, the laser breaks up excess pigment to even out tone.

Results build over the weeks that follow as new collagen forms. So we pair your course with the right home care to protect and extend it. For most people that means daily SPF and a short, targeted routine of medical grade skincare. That is exactly what several of our before-and-after results used alongside the treatment. In turn, your practitioner maps out how many sessions you are likely to need and what to expect at each stage.

Your journey

What to expect at your appointment

01
Your consultation
Every Secret PRO journey starts with a face-to-face consultation with a qualified practitioner. First, we go through your full medical history to be sure the treatment is safe for you. We also talk through your concerns and what you want to change. Then we carry out a thorough skin assessment to decide the best approach. You will get a clear explanation of the process, the pricing, the results to expect and any downtime. You also get a personalised plan with home skincare to support it. If you are having the CO2 element, a patch test may be done at this stage.
02
Before your appointment
For the safest, best result, avoid active skincare such as retinols and AHAs for three to five days beforehand. Also do not exfoliate or apply creams to the area right before. Likewise, keep off sun exposure, tanning and self-tan for at least four weeks, and alcohol for twenty-four hours. Leave at least two weeks after any anti-wrinkle injections or dermal filler. Then, come with no makeup if the treatment is on your face. Tell us if you have ever had cold sores, as an antiviral may be advised.
03
During your treatment
Where numbing cream is needed it goes on about thirty minutes before, so you stay comfortable throughout. Then your practitioner explains everything, confirms your medical history and answers any last questions. Then they take clinical images for your records and ask you to sign a consent form. During the treatment you feel warmth and some light pressure on the area. Most people find it very manageable, and your practitioner keeps checking in and adjusts to keep you at ease.
04
Aftercare and results
Afterwards an ointment is applied. We then ask you to leave makeup off for several hours. So, do not wash or touch the area for at least four hours. Downtime depends on which technology you had and how intensive it was. Still, it can range from mild redness to a few days of light flaking. Your aftercare guidance arrives in your confirmation email alongside your pre-care notes. Following it closely keeps downtime short and your result at its best. As such, at your review we plan any further sessions and top up your skincare.

“This was my first Secret RF treatment with Anna who was really warm and welcoming, she was extremely professional and explained the whole process to me beforehand and throughout. She made sure I was completely comfortable and pain free throughout the session as well as explaining the after care to me and confirming after the appointment in an email. I can’t wait to go back for my next treatment with Anna! Thank you as always everyone at MediZen.”

Secret PRO FAQs

Here are the questions our Birmingham and Sutton Coldfield patients ask most about Secret PRO itself, from safety and comfort to sessions and recovery. For questions about a specific concern or the cost, see the section just below.

Yes. Secret PRO is a well-established, FDA-cleared platform, and at MediZen it is carried out by trained skin specialists in a clinic registered with the Care Quality Commission. Every treatment starts with a consultation, and for the CO2 element a patch test, so we only proceed when it is right for your skin.

It depends on the technology and your goal. With the radiofrequency micro-needling, most people have around three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. With the CO2 laser, one treatment is often enough, though some skins benefit from a second six to nine months later. Your practitioner sets out a clear plan at your consultation.

It is built for ageing skin, photodamage, fine lines and wrinkles on the face and neck, and it also works well on acne scarring, pigmentation, stretch marks, enlarged pores and general texture. If you want firmer, smoother, more even skin, it is one of the most complete options we offer.

Most people find it very manageable. You feel warmth and some pressure as it works, and numbing cream goes on beforehand where it is needed. Your practitioner stays with you throughout and adjusts the settings so you stay comfortable from start to finish.

Secret RF is the radiofrequency micro-needling part of the Secret PRO platform. Secret PRO refers to the full device, which pairs that Secret RF with a fractional CO2 laser. You can have either technology on its own, or both together in one plan. The comparison table above shows what each one does best.

The CO2 laser resurfaces the top layers of the skin, creating a fine network of microscopic channels that clear away damaged cells and prompt fresh collagen. Because it is fractional, it leaves most of the surface intact, so healing is quicker than with older fully ablative lasers. It is particularly good for scarring, pigmentation and texture.

They are long lasting. Many Secret RF patients are still happy eighteen months on, with a top up roughly every twelve months to maintain firmness. Most people reach a lasting result after one or two CO2 treatments. For an added collagen and hydration boost between courses, some patients pair it with Profhilo.

Straight after, an ointment is applied and we ask you to leave makeup off for a few hours and not to wash or touch the area for at least four hours. Downtime ranges from mild redness to a few days of light flaking, depending on which technology you had and how deep we went. Your full aftercare arrives in your confirmation email.

It depends entirely on which technology you have and how deep we work. Radiofrequency micro-needling on its own tends to leave mild redness that settles within a day or two. The CO2 laser asks for a little more patience, usually a few days of redness and light flaking as the fresh skin comes through. Your practitioner tells you exactly what to plan for before you book, so you can time it around work or an event.

Some early freshness shows once the initial redness fades, but the real change builds over the following weeks as new collagen forms. Most people notice smoother texture and more even tone from around four to six weeks, with the result continuing to improve for up to three months. A course is planned so each session builds on the last.

Redness, warmth and some light flaking are the usual short-term effects, rather like a strong day in the sun that fades over a few days. Swelling and sensitivity can follow the deeper settings and settle quickly with the aftercare we give you. Serious reactions are uncommon when the treatment is carried out properly, which is why every plan starts with a consultation and, for the CO2 element, a patch test.

Keep it simple for the first few days: no makeup for several hours, no washing or touching the area for at least four, and diligent SPF once you are through the initial healing. Your full aftercare arrives with your confirmation email. Some patients add a course of LED light therapy to calm the skin and support recovery.

Allow roughly forty-five to ninety minutes, depending on the areas treated and whether you are having one technology or both. Numbing cream goes on around thirty minutes before, so factor that time in. Your practitioner gives you an accurate estimate once your plan is confirmed at consultation.

It can be, though darker skin needs careful assessment because heat-based resurfacing carries a higher risk of pigment change if the settings are wrong. Your practitioner reviews your skin type at consultation and adjusts the approach, and in some cases will suggest a gentler starting point. Honesty about suitability matters to us more than fitting everyone to the same treatment.

No, we do not carry out Secret PRO during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. This is a sensible precaution rather than evidence of harm, and we are glad to plan your treatment for afterwards. A gentle skincare routine can keep your skin in good shape in the meantime.

For skin that genuinely needs resurfacing, most patients feel it earns its place. One platform treats the surface and the deeper layers in a single appointment, so you are not stacking separate treatments to reach the same result. Between fuller courses, some people keep their skin bright with a lighter treatment such as a HydraFacial. We are honest at your consultation about what it will and will not change.

Yes, and it is a popular way to get more from a course. Resurfacing pairs well with regenerative injectables such as polynucleotides, which support skin repair and quality between sessions. Your practitioner maps out the order and timing so each treatment supports the next.

By concern

Secret PRO for your concern and costs

Wondering whether Secret PRO is right for your particular concern, or what it costs in Birmingham? These are the questions we hear most about individual concerns, combining treatments and pricing.

Yes, it is one of the best options we have for scarring. The CO2 laser resurfaces the pitted, uneven surface while the radiofrequency micro-needling rebuilds collagen underneath, so scars soften and the skin looks smoother over the following weeks. If your acne is still active, we treat that first before resurfacing any scars.

Yes. The CO2 laser breaks up excess pigment and lifts away sun-damaged cells to even out tone and brighten dull skin. Results build gradually, and we usually pair the course with home care and daily SPF to protect it.

Yes. The radiofrequency micro-needling delivers heat into the deeper layers to remodel collagen, which firms mild laxity and refines the skin on both the face and neck. It is a popular choice for skin that has started to lose its firmness but is not ready for surgery.

It can. The same resurfacing and collagen remodelling that improves scarring also helps soften the texture and colour of stretch marks. We assess the area at your consultation and are honest about the improvement you can expect.

Yes. By stimulating fresh collagen at two levels, it softens fine lines and early wrinkles and improves overall texture. If you want a gentler, lower-downtime alternative, ask us about a course of chemical peels.

It comes down to how much change you want and how much downtime suits you. Standard micro-needling is gentle with very little downtime and great for everyday skin quality. Secret PRO adds radiofrequency heat and a CO2 laser for a stronger result on scarring, laxity and deeper texture. Your practitioner recommends the right level at your consultation.

Secret PRO starts from £799 for a small-area radiofrequency treatment, with CO2 and combined plans priced by the areas treated. The full breakdown is in the price table above, and you can see everything we offer on our price list. Your exact plan is confirmed at consultation.

Yes, and many people do. It works well alongside a course of medical grade skincare to protect and extend the result, and it can sit within a wider plan for your skin. Your practitioner maps out the order and timing so each treatment supports the next.
