The Cutera Xeo+ is a multi-use laser platform, which makes it a great place to start if you’re new to laser treatments. Who is the Xeo+ Laser for?

Most people who come to us for the Xeo+ have spent a while covering something up. A flush across the cheeks that never quite settles. A scatter of brown spots after too many good summers. A fine red vein by the nose that catches the light. The treatment suits you if you want that concern to genuinely fade rather than be painted over each morning. It also suits you if you would rather sidestep surgery or a long recovery.

The Xeo+ earns its place in the clinic because it treats so many different things well. Our Birmingham and Sutton Coldfield clients most often come in for one or more of these:

  • Sun damage, age spots and uneven pigmentation
  • Rosacea and persistent facial redness
  • Thread veins and broken capillaries on the face
  • Spider veins and small vessels on the legs
  • Cherry angiomas, spider naevi and small red spots
  • Dull, tired skin that has lost its brightness
  • Early lines, open pores and rough texture
  • Active acne and the marks it tends to leave

It is only fair to say what the Xeo+ is not. It will not remove unwanted hair, dissolve fat or lift sagging skin. Very deep, pitted acne scars usually respond better to a resurfacing route such as micro-needling or Secret PRO. If your acne is active and stubborn, our dedicated AviClear acne laser is often the smarter first step. Every plan begins with a proper skin assessment and a patch test. So you know before you commit whether the Xeo+ is the right tool for your skin.

What is the Xeo+ Laser?

The Xeo+ is a laser and light platform built by Cutera, one of the most established names in medical aesthetics. Rather than a single beam doing a single job, it carries more than 25 applications across a handful of handpieces. Your practitioner selects the right one for the concern sitting in front of them.

Three of those applications do most of the heavy lifting. The Limelight IPL handpiece sends broad-spectrum light into the skin. This breaks down the melanin behind sun spots, age spots and general pigmentation. That is why it is our first choice for sun damage on the face, neck, chest and hands. A focused 1064nm laser reaches the small blood vessels that drive redness, rosacea, thread veins and cherry angiomas. Because that wavelength is kinder to melanin, it can be used across a wider range of skin tones. Laser Genesis, the third, warms the deeper skin to rebuild collagen.

None of this strips away the surface of the skin, so sessions are comfortable and the downtime is short. Having several applications on one platform means the team can match the right light to the right skin. It does not force every concern down a single wavelength. That is what keeps results looking like your own skin, only better. MediZen is doctor-led by Dr David Eccleston. Every plan is built around your skin and the concern you walk in with.

Treatment: Xeo+ Limelight IPL & Laser Genesis

Laser Genesis: rejuvenation with nothing to hide

If your skin is more tired than troubled, Laser Genesis is usually where we start. It is the gentlest thing the Xeo+ does, and quietly one of the most requested treatments we offer. The handpiece warms the dermis a fraction at a time. This nudges the skin to lay down fresh collagen over the following weeks.

The effect builds rather than shocks. Pores look tighter, oil settles, fine lines soften. The diffuse flushing that makes skin look permanently warm begins to calm. It also helps with melasma and the greyish dullness left by years of sun. Most people describe the session itself as warm and soothing, closer to a hot-stone facial than a clinical laser. They then walk straight back into the day with nothing to hide.

Because there is no recovery to plan around, Laser Genesis sits neatly beside other treatments. We combine it with a HydraFacial as HydraGenesis for an immediate glow. Or we pair it with a chemical peel when the goal is deeper resurfacing. Your practitioner will map out which route gets you where you want to be. That might be Laser Genesis on its own, a vascular or pigmentation session, or a combination of the two.

Comparison

Xeo+ vs a standalone IPL: which is right for you?

The xeo+ platform is a multi use platform, but is highly known for its cutting edge IPL technology. A standalone IPL machine does a single job, whereas the Xeo+ carries IPL, a vascular laser and Laser Genesis on one platform. So a single course can move across pigmentation, redness and skin quality. Here is an honest side by side to help you choose.

Your journey

What to expect at your appointment

01
Your consultation
Every Xeo+ journey starts face to face with a MediZen laser specialist. We take a full medical history to be sure the treatment is safe for you. We also talk through what is bothering you and what a good result looks like, and assess your skin properly. You leave with a clear explanation of the treatment, the pricing, what to expect and any downtime. You also get a personalised plan and any skincare we would recommend at home. Because this is a laser treatment, we carry out a patch test at this stage. This shows exactly how your skin responds.
02
Before your appointment
A little preparation protects both your skin and your result. Avoid active skincare such as retinols and AHAs for three to five days beforehand. Do not exfoliate or layer creams onto the area right before. Keep off sun exposure, sunbeds and self-tan for at least four weeks, and alcohol for the 24 hours before. Leave at least two weeks after any anti-wrinkle or dermal filler treatment. Come with clean skin and no makeup if we are treating the face. Also let us know if you are prone to cold sores, as an antiviral may be sensible.
03
During your treatment
Your practitioner talks you through the session and answers any last questions. They confirm your medical history, take clinical photographs for your records and review the consent form with you. Then you relax while the treatment is carried out in a calm clinical room. A cooled tip rests against the skin for most applications to protect it and keep you comfortable. Most Xeo+ sessions run between 45 minutes and an hour, depending on the area and the concern.
04
Aftercare and results
Your aftercare guidance arrives with your confirmation email alongside the pre-care notes. Some redness or mild swelling is normal and settles within a few days. After a full-face session any swelling tends to peak at 24 to 48 hours. Treated brown spots darken before gently flaking away. A stronger IPL session for heavier pigmentation can leave the skin a little pink. This can last for a few days up to a week. Following the aftercare closely is what keeps downtime short and results strong. You can book any follow-up sessions and top up skincare at your review.

Every course begins with a consultation and a patch test. So the plan and the price fit your skin rather than a template. A single session suits a one-off concern such as a lone vessel or a small cluster of sun spots. A course of three or six gives the best value on pigmentation, rosacea and rejuvenation programmes. Laser Genesis can be added to another treatment from £99.

Xeo+ Laser FAQs

Still weighing up the Xeo+ laser in Birmingham? These are the questions our patients ask most about the treatment itself, from safety and comfort through to sessions and recovery. For questions about a specific concern or what it costs, see the section just below.

The Xeo+ is FDA approved and has a long safety record. It is recognised by dermatologists as an industry leader for vascular and pigmentation work, and our team is trained directly by Cutera in its use. The real safeguard is that every course starts with a consultation and a patch test, which tells us how your skin responds before we treat it.

More than 25 concerns across the face and body. The most common are sun damage and pigmentation, rosacea and facial redness, thread and leg veins, cherry angiomas, dull skin, early lines and open pores, and acne with the marks it leaves. If you are not sure your concern is on that list, book a consultation and we will tell you honestly whether the Xeo+ is the right tool.

Limelight is the Xeo+ IPL handpiece. It floods the skin with broad-spectrum light that is absorbed by excess melanin, so sun spots and age spots lift and fade over the following days while overall tone evens out. It is the application we reach for most with sun damage on the face, neck, chest and hands.

They are close relatives rather than the same thing. The Xeo+ is a broad multi-application platform that carries Limelight IPL, a vascular laser and Laser Genesis, while our excel V+ laser is a dedicated dual-wavelength vascular and pigmentation laser. For heavy sun damage the Xeo+ Limelight IPL often wins; for precise vessel and rosacea work the excel V+ can have the edge. At your consultation we will recommend whichever fits your skin.

Most Xeo+ sessions run between 45 minutes and an hour, depending on the area and the concern. A single small vessel is quick; a full face, neck and chest takes longer.

It is not painful. People usually compare it to a quick flick of a rubber band against the skin, and no worse than that. For most applications a cooled tip rests on the skin to protect it and keep you comfortable throughout.

Usually very little. Most people are back to normal the same day or the next. Some redness or mild swelling is normal, and for full-face treatments it tends to peak at 24 to 48 hours before settling within a few days, while treated brown spots darken and then flake away. A stronger IPL session for heavier pigmentation can leave you a little pink for a few days up to a week, which we always flag in advance.

You will often see a change after the first session, and for most concerns we recommend a course of three to six for the fullest result. Some pigmentation and rosacea benefit from occasional maintenance afterwards. Your practitioner sets out a realistic plan at your consultation rather than a one-size number.

We can treat from age 15 where there is a genuine medical reason. A parent or guardian must consent and be present for every appointment, and under-18s see a doctor or nurse first. Get in touch and we will check whether we can help.

It depends on what we are treating. Cleared thread veins, cherry angiomas and individual sun spots tend to stay gone for good, though fresh ones can appear over time with more sun exposure. Rosacea and diffuse redness are ongoing conditions, so most people book occasional maintenance once or twice a year to hold the result. Daily SPF is the single biggest factor in keeping pigmentation from creeping back.

Often after the very first session. Treated brown spots usually darken within a day or two, then flake away over the following week to reveal clearer skin beneath. Redness and rosacea settle more gradually across a course, while Laser Genesis works quietly in the background as fresh collagen builds over several weeks.

The focused 1064nm laser is the wavelength of choice for deeper skin tones, because it largely bypasses surface melanin and reaches the target beneath, which lowers the risk of burns or pigment change. Limelight IPL calls for more caution on darker skin, so your practitioner chooses the safest application for your tone. The patch test at your consultation confirms exactly how your skin responds before any full treatment.

We do not treat during pregnancy as a precaution, even though the concerns themselves, such as melasma, are often driven by pregnancy hormones. Many patients wait until they have finished breastfeeding, when hormone levels have settled and results tend to be more stable. If you are unsure about timing, book a consultation and we will advise.

Keep the skin cool and simple for a few days. Avoid heat, saunas, hot workouts and alcohol for 24 to 48 hours, pause active ingredients such as retinols and acids until any redness has settled, and do not pick at brown spots as they darken and flake. Daily broad-spectrum SPF is non-negotiable, and pairing the treatment with our medical grade skincare helps protect and extend your result.

After a gentle session such as Laser Genesis you can usually apply mineral makeup the same day. Following a stronger IPL treatment for pigmentation we suggest leaving the skin bare for around 24 hours while any redness settles. Your practitioner gives you specific guidance based on the application and the area treated.

Side effects are usually mild and short-lived: some redness, a little swelling and, after pigmentation work, temporary darkening of the treated spots before they flake away. More significant reactions such as blistering or a change in pigment are rare, and far less likely when you follow the aftercare and stay out of the sun. This is exactly why every course begins with a patch test.

For pigmentation, redness and thread veins that make-up only hides, most patients feel it is money well spent, because the concern genuinely fades rather than being covered over each morning. It also does several jobs on one platform, so a single course can tackle more than one issue at once. If your main goal is deeper firming or lost volume, a treatment such as Profhilo may suit you better, and we will say so honestly at your consultation.

MediZen treats with the Cutera Xeo+ at our Birmingham clinic, which is easy to reach from across the city and from Sutton Coldfield. Your whole journey, from consultation and patch test through to your review, happens in one place with a Cutera-trained team.

By concern

Xeo+ for your concern and costs

Wondering whether the Xeo+ is right for your particular concern, or what it costs? These are the questions we hear most about treating individual issues such as sun damage, rosacea, thread veins and acne, along with pricing and combining treatments.

Yes, and it is what the Xeo+ is best known for. The Limelight IPL handpiece breaks down excess melanin to lift sun spots, age spots and uneven tone, and it works well beyond the face on the neck, chest, arms and hands where sun tends to show first. Most people need a short course, and results build over the weeks after each session.

Yes. The focused 1064nm laser targets the small blood vessels that drive rosacea and persistent flushing, which is often more predictable than trying to calm redness from the outside. Most people need three to six sessions and notice an improvement after the first. Rosacea is a long-term condition, so you can read more about it on the NHS rosacea page, and occasional maintenance keeps it in check.

Yes. The 1064nm laser is very effective on facial thread veins, broken capillaries, cherry angiomas and spider naevi, often clearing them in one or two sessions. These are usually treated as part of a vascular or skin-lesion appointment.

It can treat spider and thread veins on the legs. Larger, bulging varicose veins are a different problem and are better assessed medically, so if that is your concern our dermatology team can point you to the right route.

It helps on both fronts, easing active breakouts and softening the marks and redness they leave, often alongside Laser Genesis. If your acne is active and stubborn, our dedicated AviClear acne laser is usually the better first step, and deeper, pitted scars tend to respond best to micro-needling. We will be honest at your consultation about which will serve you best.

It can soften melasma, though this pigmentation is hormone-driven and stubborn, so we manage expectations honestly. Laser Genesis and carefully judged light settings can lift some of the discolouration, and we usually pair treatment with daily SPF and chemical peels or brightening skincare. It is about steady control rather than a one-off cure.

Yes, and it is one of the platform’s strengths. Laser Genesis pairs with a HydraFacial as HydraGenesis for an instant glow, or with a chemical peel for deeper resurfacing. Your practitioner can build a combined plan around your skin and your diary.

The Xeo+ starts from £135, with course prices offering better value on ongoing programmes. The full price table is above, and you can see everything we offer on our complete price list.

Xeo+ Laser reviews

★★★★★

I have quite bad sun damage and have been researching different treatment options for a while. I saw Laura V for my consultation who recommended the Xeo+ laser and decided to go ahead. After just one treatment my skin had improved so much more than I ever imagined it would. I can't wait to see what my result is after the full course!
