MediZen has had the Cutera excel V+ laser for many years yet it is still the laser our team reaches for. We use it when someone wants redness, veins or pigmentation gone for good, rather than covered up each morning. In practice, one machine, two precise wavelengths, and more than 20 concerns treated well. That ranges from rosacea and thread veins to sun spots and uneven tone.
FDA-approved vascular & pigmentation laser, trusted by MediZen for many years.

In practice, most people who book the excel V+ have been managing something for a while. A flush across the cheeks that never quite settles. A fine red vein beside the nose that bothers them on make-up free days. A scatter of brown spots earned over too many sunny summers. The treatment is for you if you want that concern to genuinely clear, rather than be painted over with concealer.
Our Birmingham and Sutton Coldfield patients most often come in for one or more of these:
It is only fair to say what the excel V+ will not do. Also, it does not remove unwanted hair or lift sagging skin. Deep, pitted acne scars usually respond better to a resurfacing route, such as micro-needling or Secret PRO. Still, the laser suits a wide range of skin types. Its deeper 1064nm wavelength lets us treat safely across darker tones. Every plan begins with a full consultation and a patch test at our Sutton Coldfield clinic. So, you know before you commit whether this is the right laser for your skin.
The Cutera excel V+ is a vascular and pigmentation laser built by Cutera. Also, the company is one of the most established names in medical aesthetics. What makes it unusual is that it carries two wavelengths in a single platform. A 532nm beam goes for the reds and browns near the surface, sun spots, facial redness and fine vessels. Meanwhile, a deeper 1064nm laser reaches larger and deeper vessels. Even so, it is gentle enough with melanin to be used across a wider range of skin tones. It is FDA approved and recognised by dermatologists as a leader in vascular and pigmentation work.
The excel V+ has three handpieces that let your practitioner match the light precisely to the concern in front of them. Because the laser works below the surface without stripping it away, sessions are quick and comfortable. Most take under 30 minutes and need little to no downtime. Still, results are usually visible within three to six sessions.
In turn, carrying two wavelengths in one platform helps the team. They can treat the redness, the pigmentation and the vessel in the same skin. As such, this avoids forcing every concern down a single beam. That precision is what keeps results looking like your own skin, only clearer. It is delivered by MediZen’s experienced practitioners, under the clinical oversight of Dr David Eccleston.
People researching this often come across the V-Beam laser. Likewise, both treat redness and visible veins. The difference is that V-Beam is a single-wavelength pulsed-dye laser. The excel V+, by contrast, combines two wavelengths. This lets us cover a wider range of vascular and pigmentation concerns and tailor every session to your skin.
Our most requested excel V+ treatment is Laser Genesis, and it is the gentlest thing the laser does. It works by warming the deeper layers of the skin a fraction at a time. So, this prompts the skin to build fresh collagen over the following weeks. Skin firms, pores tighten, oil settles and fine lines soften.
Laser Genesis also calms redness and diffuse flushing and evens out tone and texture. The session itself feels warm and soothing, closer to a hot-stone facial than a clinical laser. There is no recovery to plan around. That is why it fits so easily into a working week in Birmingham.
Because it asks nothing of your diary, Laser Genesis sits neatly beside other treatments. We pair it with a HydraFacial as HydraGenesis for an immediate glow. Alternatively, we combine it with a chemical peel when the goal is deeper resurfacing. Of course, your practitioner will tell you which route suits you best. That could be Laser Genesis on its own, a vascular or pigmentation session, or a combination of the two. Either way, they will get you where you want to be at our Sutton Coldfield clinic.
Of course, people often search for a V-Beam laser in Birmingham and land here. That makes sense, since both lasers treat redness and visible veins. At MediZen we use the Cutera excel V+, a dual-wavelength vascular and pigmentation laser. Here is an honest side by side so you can choose with confidence.
“Natalie explained everything to me very clearly, having first made a full assessment of my skin. The recommended laser treatment was comfortable, and at every stage I felt very confident in Natalie’s capable hands. I noticed an immediate improvement in the redness of my face and the reduction in broken veins.”

Of course, every course begins with a consultation and a patch test. So, the plan and the price fit your skin, rather than a template. A single session suits a one-off concern, such as a lone vessel or a small cluster of thread veins. Meanwhile, a course of three or six gives the best value on rosacea, pigmentation and rejuvenation programmes. Also, Laser Genesis can be added to another treatment from £99.
Still weighing up the excel V+ laser in Birmingham? These are the questions our patients ask most about the treatment itself, from safety and comfort through to sessions and recovery. For questions about a specific concern or what it costs, see the section just below.
The excel V+ is FDA approved and has a long safety record, recognised by dermatologists as a leader in vascular and pigmentation work. Our team is trained directly by Cutera in its use. The real safeguard is that every course starts with a consultation and a patch test, so we see how your skin responds before we treat it.
More than 20, across the face and body. The most common are rosacea and facial redness, thread veins and broken capillaries, leg veins, sun spots and pigmentation, cherry angiomas and small red spots, and dull skin or early lines. If you are not sure your concern is on that list, book a consultation and we will tell you honestly whether the excel V+ is the right tool.
Laser Genesis is one of the treatments the excel V+ delivers, not a separate machine. It warms the skin gently to stimulate collagen, refine pores, calm redness and improve tone and texture, and it pairs beautifully with a HydraFacial as HydraGenesis.
Not quite. The V-Beam is a single-wavelength pulsed-dye laser, while the Cutera excel V+ carries two wavelengths, 532nm and 1064nm, in one platform. Both treat redness, rosacea and visible veins well. The excel V+ simply lets us cover a wider range of vascular and pigmentation concerns and tailor every session to your skin. If someone has recommended a V-Beam, book a consultation and we will talk you through the best option for you.
Yes. Laser Genesis, delivered by the excel V+, is a non-ablative resurfacing treatment. It rejuvenates the skin by building collagen and refining texture and pores without removing the surface, so there is little to no downtime and most people return to normal activities straight away.
Laser Genesis warms the deeper layers of the skin to stimulate collagen, which over a course firms and tightens the skin and refines pores. Because it is gentle and needs no downtime, you can have it regularly, usually every two to four weeks during a course and then for occasional maintenance as your practitioner advises.
For most excel V+ and Laser Genesis treatments, yes, you can apply makeup and get on with your day. After a stronger vascular session that leaves some redness or swelling, we may suggest leaving makeup off for a short while, and your practitioner will tell you what suits your skin.
The Cutera Xeo is the medical-grade laser and light platform the excel V+ is delivered on, and it is one of the most established systems in aesthetics. It is also the basis of our broader Xeo+ laser, which is what lets us treat vascular concerns, pigmentation and skin rejuvenation from one system.
They are minor and short-lived. You may notice some warmth, redness or mild swelling on the day, and treated brown spots will darken before flaking away over three to five days. Serious side effects are rare when a trained practitioner carries out the treatment, which is exactly why we start every plan with a consultation and a patch test.
Most treatments are done in under ten minutes. Larger areas or more involved concerns can take up to half an hour.
It is not painful. Most people compare it to a quick flick of a rubber band against the skin, and no worse than that. A cooled tip usually rests on the skin throughout to protect it and keep you comfortable.
Downtime is minimal. Most people wear makeup and return to normal activities the same day. Some redness or mild swelling can follow, and after a full-face treatment it tends to peak at 24 to 48 hours before settling within a few days, while treated brown spots darken and slough off within three to five days.
For most concerns, one or two sessions bring the result, though this varies with the concern and what you want to achieve. Your practitioner sets out a realistic, personalised plan at your consultation rather than a one-size number.
Many people see a change after a single session, with the result building over the following weeks. It is long-lasting, though new sun damage or fresh vessels can appear over time, so occasional maintenance is sometimes worth it.
Avoid retinols and AHAs for three to five days, and sun exposure or self-tan for at least four weeks. Skip alcohol for the 24 hours before, and come with clean skin and no makeup if we are treating your face. We carry out a patch test at your consultation.
We can treat from age 15 where there is a genuine medical reason. A parent or guardian must consent and be present for every appointment, and under-18s see a doctor or nurse first. Get in touch and we will check whether we can help.
Yes, and it is one of the reasons we chose it. The deeper 1064nm wavelength is absorbed less by melanin, so it lets us treat redness, veins and some pigmentation more safely across a wider range of skin tones, including darker ones, than lasers built around a single shorter wavelength. As with every skin type, your plan begins with a consultation and a patch test at our Sutton Coldfield clinic, which is how we confirm the right settings for your skin before we treat it. Where a concern sits deeper or calls for a different approach, we may suggest pairing it with medical-grade skincare to support your results.
Wondering whether the excel V+ is right for your particular concern, or what it costs? These are the questions we hear most about treating individual issues such as rosacea, thread veins, cherry angiomas and pigmentation, along with pricing and combining treatments.
IPL uses broadband light that scatters across many targets at once, while the excel V+ is a focused laser at 532nm and 1064nm that goes straight for the specific blood vessels behind redness and rosacea. For most people that makes the laser more precise and more predictable on facial redness and visible vessels. Rosacea is a long-term condition, and you can read the basics on the NHS rosacea page. Book a consultation and we will recommend the right approach for your skin.
Most rosacea and redness patients need a short course, often three to six sessions a few weeks apart, and many notice a difference after the first. Laser treatment for rosacea is considered cosmetic and is not usually available on the NHS, so we offer it privately at our Sutton Coldfield clinic. Your practitioner confirms your plan at the consultation.
Yes. The excel V+ 1064nm laser is very effective on cherry angiomas, spider naevi and other small red spots, often clearing them in one or two sessions. We usually treat these as part of a vascular or skin-lesion appointment.
Yes, and it is one of the treatments the excel V+ does best. The laser targets the small blood vessels that drive rosacea and persistent flushing, which is often more predictable than trying to calm redness from the surface. Most people need three to six sessions, with occasional maintenance to keep it in check.
Yes. The excel V+ targets and clears facial thread veins and broken capillaries, often in a single session, and it treats spider veins on the legs too. Larger or bulging leg veins are a different matter and are better assessed medically first.
Yes. The 532nm wavelength breaks down excess pigment to lift sun spots, age spots and uneven tone. Results build over the weeks after each session, and treated brown spots darken briefly before flaking away. Pigmentation responds best to a short course alongside good daily sun protection.
It can treat spider and thread veins on the legs. Larger, bulging varicose veins are a separate medical matter and need assessing properly, so if that is your concern we will point you toward the right route at your consultation.
The excel V+ starts from £135, with course prices for better value on ongoing programmes. The full price table is above, and you can see everything we offer on our complete price list, or ask about our memberships.
Yes, and it is one of the laser’s strengths. It pairs well with a HydraFacial as HydraGenesis for an instant glow, or with a chemical peel for deeper resurfacing. Your practitioner can build a combined plan around your skin and your diary.
