MediZen brought the Cutera truFlex to Birmingham for a particular kind of patient. They keep telling us the same thing. The gym hours are there, and the effort is there. Yet the deep core or the glutes still never quite firm up. So truFlex is a muscle-building treatment that works those muscles for you.
Muscle-stimulating body treatment, personalised to your fitness level and delivered by MediZen's experienced body specialists.
per treatment
Most people who book truFlex at our Birmingham clinic are already doing the work. They run, they lift, they hold a plank until their arms shake. Yet the deep core or the glutes still lag behind everything else. truFlex is for you if you want to strengthen and define muscle that training alone has not reached. It also suits you after a bad back, a recent pregnancy, or long stretches at a desk. Those things can leave your core weaker than you would like.
Our Birmingham and Sutton Coldfield patients most often come to truFlex for one or more of these:
It is only honest to say what truFlex will not do. It builds and tones muscle, it does not remove fat. If your goal is losing inches rather than firming what sits underneath, look at fat reduction instead. Treatments such as truSculpt or CoolSculpting are the better route. And if weight itself is the real concern, our weight loss injections may suit you more. truFlex is also not right for everyone medically. We cannot treat you if you are pregnant. The same applies if you have a pacemaker, an implanted defibrillator, epilepsy, or an abdominal hernia. Every plan starts with a consultation where we go through your history properly before anything begins.
truFlex is a muscle-stimulating body treatment built by Cutera. This is the medical-device company behind much of the laser and body technology we run at MediZen. You may see it called truSculpt flex. It works by sending controlled bio-electric energy through pads placed on the skin. This makes the muscle beneath contract, hold and release. It does so with a force and a rhythm you could not reproduce on your own. Because the machine reads and adjusts to your body, the treatment is genuinely personalised. It adapts to your fitness level, your shape and your goal rather than running everyone through one fixed setting.
What sets the Cutera truFlex apart is that it does not deliver a single flat contraction. It moves through three distinct actions, Prep, Tone and Sculpt, which mirror the effort of squatting, crunching and twisting. That sequence is why one 15-minute session can equal roughly 54,000 crunches. It is also why the machine can work up to eight muscle groups at once. There are no needles, no anaesthetic and no downtime. So people fit truFlex around a lunch break in Birmingham and head straight back into the afternoon.
The Cutera truFlex treats muscle the way a good training programme does. First, it builds tolerance. Then it works the muscle to fatigue. Finally, it drives the deep contractions that create real definition. MediZen’s body specialists tailor every session to the person on the couch. That is what separates a proper muscle-building course from a gadget you strap on and forget.
There is a wider benefit that catches people by surprise. A strong core supports the spine. So truFlex has been shown to help ease lower back pain that stems from weak abdominal and core muscles. If nagging back pain is part of why you are reading this, there is a useful next step. It is worth seeing how the NHS explains lower back pain and its link to core strength. Then talk it through at your consultation.
The treatment people ask about most, once they understand truFlex, is truBody. For many it is the reason they book a consultation in the first place. truBody pairs truFlex with truSculpt, our fat-reduction treatment, so one programme does two jobs. truSculpt reduces stubborn fat while truFlex builds and defines the muscle underneath it. Taking away a layer of fat over a firmer, stronger muscle gives a sculpted look. That is a look neither treatment quite reaches on its own.
A truBody plan usually opens with a truSculpt session to start reducing fat. Most people describe this as a warm, hot-stone-massage sensation. Then comes a run of truFlex sessions to build muscle, with a top-up along the way. Because the two devices complement each other, we offer truBody as a package. That is two truSculpt sessions with five truFlex from £1,650, or with seven truFlex from £2,000. Both options save against booking the sessions one by one.
truBody is not the only way to combine treatments. Some patients run truFlex alongside faceStim, which uses muscle stimulation on the face. So the body and the face are worked in the same visit. Your practitioner will map out the right plan for you. That might be truFlex on its own, truBody, or a wider plan to reach your goal. They will also set out over how many weeks.
Anyone weighing up a muscle-building treatment in Birmingham tends to come across Emsculpt as well. The two are easy to mix up. At MediZen we use the Cutera truFlex. Both build muscle without exercise. So here is an honest side by side to help you choose, rather than a claim that one wins outright.
Our team is extensively trained in every treatment they perform. These are the practitioners who carry out truFlex at MediZen.

Every truFlex course opens with a consultation. So the plan, the number of sessions and the cost fit your body and your goal rather than a template. A single-area course of five to seven sessions starts from £1,100. If fat reduction is part of the picture, a truBody package brings truSculpt and truFlex together. That offers better value than booking each on its own. Your practitioner confirms the exact plan and price at your consultation.
Still weighing up truFlex in Birmingham? These are the questions our patients ask most about the treatment itself, from how it feels and how many sessions you need through to safety and downtime. For questions about a specific goal or what it costs, see the section just below.
truFlex is a muscle-stimulating body treatment from Cutera, sometimes called truSculpt flex. It sends controlled bio-electric energy through pads on the skin to make the muscle contract, hold and release far harder than you could yourself. It runs through three actions, Prep, Tone and Sculpt, and a single 15-minute session can equal around 54,000 crunches. It builds and defines muscle, most often on the abdomen and glutes.
truFlex is non-invasive, needs no anaesthetic and has no downtime, so you return to normal activities straight away. The Cutera technology behind it is well established, and our body specialists are trained in its use. The real safeguard is the consultation at the start, where we check your medical history and confirm the treatment is right for you before anything begins.
As the treatment begins you feel a gentle contraction, and as the intensity slowly increases the muscle works harder, but it stays comfortable throughout. Most people describe it as a strange but satisfying sensation, closer to an intense workout than anything clinical. You stay in control of the intensity the whole way through.
Each session is completed in around 15 minutes, which is why it fits so easily into a lunch break or between meetings in Birmingham.
Most people have a course of five to seven sessions for the best results, though noticeable change can come from as few as four. The exact number depends on your starting point and your goal, and your practitioner sets out a realistic plan at your consultation rather than a one-size figure.
Results often start to show after the first session and build over the following weeks, with maximum results visible 8 to 12 weeks after your final session. To maintain them we usually recommend a top-up session every three to four months, since muscle, like any muscle, needs to be kept working.
truFlex builds and tones muscle. It does not remove fat. If losing a layer of fat is your main goal, that is a job for fat reduction such as truSculpt or CoolSculpting. Many people combine the two as truBody, so fat comes down while the muscle underneath is built up. Your practitioner will tell you honestly which route fits your body.
It can help where the pain comes from a weak core. A stronger abdomen and core support the spine, and truFlex has been shown to ease lower back pain of that kind. It is not a treatment for injury or a structural problem, so if you have ongoing back pain it is worth reading the NHS guidance on lower back pain and raising it at your consultation so we can advise properly.
We cannot treat you if you are pregnant, or if you have a pacemaker, an implanted defibrillator, epilepsy or an abdominal hernia. If any of these apply, tell us at booking and we will talk through whether another treatment might suit you instead.
No, truFlex is not painful, though the sensation surprises most people the first time. You feel the muscle pull into a deep, involuntary contraction, hold, then release, closer to the burn of a hard set in the gym than anything clinical. Your practitioner builds the intensity up gradually, and you stay in control of it throughout.
Side effects are minor and short lived. Most people feel a little muscle soreness for a day or two, much like the ache after a tough workout, and occasionally a light tingling in the treated area for a few hours. There is no bruising, no swelling and nothing that keeps you from your normal routine.
For the right person, yes. If you already train and a stubborn area such as the deep core or the glutes simply will not respond, truFlex reaches muscle that mat work struggles to, and the results keep building over the weeks that follow. When the real concern is a layer of fat rather than muscle tone, your money goes further on truSculpt or the combined truBody programme, and we will say so plainly at your consultation.
Yes to both. There is no downtime, so you can head to the gym, cook dinner or return to work straight after a session. Eating well and staying hydrated actually helps, since you are asking the muscle to recover and grow much as it would after training.
There is no upper age limit. Healthy adults across a wide range of ages have truFlex, and suitability comes down to your medical history rather than a number. We review that history at the consultation and confirm the treatment is safe before we begin.
Both build muscle without exercise, but they rely on different technology. truFlex uses bio-electric stimulation that moves through three actions and adjusts to your fitness level, working up to eight muscle groups in one 15-minute session, whereas Emsculpt uses a single electromagnetic contraction pattern. At MediZen we use the Cutera truFlex, and the comparison table further up the page sets the two out side by side.
Muscle behaves like any other muscle, so it needs to be kept working to hold its shape. Most people book a maintenance session every three to four months once their course is complete, alongside their own training. Your practitioner will suggest a rhythm that fits your body and your goals.
Very little is needed. Wear comfortable clothing that gives easy access to the area being treated, eat something light beforehand and drink plenty of water. Skip a heavy gym session on the same body part the day before so the muscle is fresh, and let us know about any medical conditions or metal implants when you book.
Wondering whether truFlex is right for your particular goal, or what it costs in Birmingham? These are the questions we hear most about toning specific areas, treating after pregnancy, and pricing, along with how truFlex works alongside our other body treatments.
Yes, the abdomen is the area people book truFlex for most. By replicating the crunching and twisting actions of a hard core workout, it strengthens and defines the muscle for a flatter, firmer stomach, and it builds the deep core strength that also supports your back.
Yes. truFlex replicates the squatting action that builds and lifts the glutes, so it is a popular choice for anyone who wants more shape and strength there without months of dedicated leg and glute training. Many patients treat the abdomen and glutes across the same course.
Once you have been cleared to exercise again, truFlex can be a good way to rebuild core and abdominal strength that pregnancy has stretched, and to ease the lower back pain that often comes with it. We cannot treat you while you are pregnant, so this is something to start afterwards, and your practitioner will check you are ready at your consultation.
Absolutely. Healthy men and women both benefit from truFlex. Men most often use it to define the abdomen and add strength across the core and other muscle groups, alongside their own training. Suitability comes down to your health and medical history, which we review before we begin.
truBody combines truFlex with truSculpt, so one programme reduces fat and builds muscle at the same time. Choose truFlex on its own if you are happy with your body fat and simply want more tone and strength. Choose truBody if you also want to take fat down for a more sculpted result. Your practitioner will help you decide at the consultation.
A truFlex course starts from £1,100 for a single area, and truBody packages combining truSculpt and truFlex run from £1,650. The full price table is above, and you can see everything we offer on our complete price list. Your practitioner confirms your exact plan and cost at the consultation.
Yes, and it is one of the reasons people choose it. The most popular pairing is truBody, with truSculpt for fat reduction, but some patients also run truFlex alongside faceStim for muscle stimulation on the face, so the body and face are worked in one visit. Your practitioner can build a combined plan around your goals and your diary.
Yes. While the abdomen and glutes are the areas people request most, truFlex can also work the legs, arms and other muscle groups, targeting up to eight at once in a single session. Your practitioner maps out which areas to prioritise around your goals at the consultation.
truFlex builds muscle rather than shedding fat, so on its own it is not a weight-loss treatment. If losing inches is the aim, fat reduction such as CoolSculpting is a better fit, and where weight itself is the concern our weight loss injections may suit you. Many people go on to build muscle with truFlex once the fat has come down, for a more defined result.
