Laser hair removal isn’t painful, but you may experience a stinging sensation like an elastic band flicking on your skin. You may feel slightly sore after your treatment, but this will dissipate within 24-48 hours.

To maximise results, we recommend you wait 6 weeks between each treatment. By waiting, more hair will change from dormant and shedding to “actively growing”, allowing for more effective targeting at your next appointment.

You will see some reduction immediately after your first appointment. However, for the best results, you should have at least 6 treatments.

Before your appointment, you should shave the area you’re having lasered – this will ensure the laser can target the root of the hair more effectively

We cannot perform laser treatment on anyone who has had direct sun or sunbed exposure for 4-6 weeks before their appointment. This also applies to false tan, which you cannot apply for at least two weeks before your treatment.

Some patients may feel a slight sense of discomfort during their laser hair removal sessions, but most patients find the treatment extremely tolerable with little to no pain. Depending on the treatment area, you may experience a sensation similar to an elastic band being snapped against your skin but this isn’t always the case. Here at MediZen we have a cooling device which blows cold air onto the skin after each laser shot to minimise any pain and make the treatment as comfortable as possible. Intimate areas such as the bikini line may be more sensitive than others but in general the treatment is far more pain free than people imagine it to be.

No, we would always avoid lasering over any tattoos. Laser hair removal targets the melanin (pigment) in the hair follicle to reduce growth, tattoos are pigmented and if we lasered over them it would target both the hair follicle and the tattoo itself. This could cause damage to the tattoo, colour fading, spreading of the pigment and even in some cases burn the treated area. Your practitioner will be able to laser around the tattoo, and in most instances will cover the tattooed area to ensure it is always avoided.

Yes! Laser hair removal works in the exact same way for both men and women. It is suitable for all skin types and doesn’t depend on the amount of hair in the area. The only thing to note is that the hair must be dark (black/brown) as the laser targets pigment in the hair follicle and therefore blonde/grey hairs won’t be picked up and treated effectively. If you have excessive hair growth, laser hair removal will be effective in reducing hair growth over time. The amount of sessions required may be slightly more depending on the thickness and amount of hair in the area but your practitioner would be able to discuss this with you fully during a consultation.

We treat children from 15+ for this treatment if there is a medical reason. A parent or guardian must consent to the treatment and be present for all appointments.
