Investing in aesthetic treatments is a step towards looking and feeling your very best. However, that doesn’t mean the work stops when you leave the clinic. The way you care for your skin afterwards can have a big impact on the results you get and how well they  last.

At MediZen, we believe great results go hand in hand with good aftercare. Whether you’ve had dermal fillers, microneedling, laser treatment  or a chemical peel, following the right advice helps ensure you get the most out of your treatment. Here’s what you need to know to minimise downtime, maintain your results and keep your skin looking its best.

Follow Our Post-Treatment Advice

Each aesthetic treatment has its own unique aftercare, so you should always refer to the specific advice provided by your practitioner following treatment at MediZen. Although aftercare advice differs, there is some general advice patients can follow:

  • Avoid touching the treated area for 6-12 hours.
  • Refrain from strenuous exercise for 24 to 48 hours.
  • Avoid hot showers, saunas and any activity that makes you sweat.
  • Avoid applying makeup or consuming alcohol for 24 to 48 hours.
  • Avoid any active skincare products such as retinols for 3-5 days or until the skin is healed.
  • Avoid sun exposure until the skin is healed.

Following these guidelines helps ensure minimal downtime, improved healing and effective results.

Prioritise Sun Protection

After aesthetic treatments such as Excel V+ Laser or skin resurfacing procedures, your skin becomes more vulnerable to UV damage. To reduce the risk of pigmentation and to protect and maintain your results, we’d suggest:

  • Using a broad-spectrum SPF 50+ daily, even on cloudy days or when indoors.
  • Reapply every two hours if you’re outside.
  • Avoid sunbeds entirely, as they provide extreme levels of UV and accelerate collagen breakdown.

Wearing an SPF every day is an important part of maintaining your aesthetic treatment results. However it is also essential for protecting your skin from harmful sun damage which can cause premature ageing and more importantly increase your risk of developing skin cancer. Daily SPF application is the number one thing you can do to ensure long-term skin health, there is no point spending money on aesthetic treatments if you don’t prioritise this essential element.

Many procedures, such as microneedling, polynucleotides, laser treatments and chemical peels, stimulate collagen production and enhance skin texture. Sun exposure accelerates the breakdown of collagen and elastin. By exposing your skin to UV rays without protection, it can diminish the benefits of your treatment. This compromises both your immediate results and long-term skin health.

SPF is especially important for aesthetic treatments that address hyperpigmentation, as they temporarily make the skin more vulnerable to UV damage. Without sun protection, UV exposure can trigger new pigmentation, reverse the treatment’s effects or even worsen existing dark areas. In some cases, it can also lead to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which is more common if you have medium to darker skin tones.

Be Gentle With Your Skin

Whether you’ve had a skin peel, laser treatment or injectables, allow your skin to heal naturally:

  • Don’t rub, massage or press on treated areas.
  • Avoid tight clothing or headwear that might irritate your face.
  • If flaking or peeling occurs, leave it alone and avoid the temptation to peel it off.
  • Use a gentle cleanser, moisturiser and SPF until your skin is healed, avoid any active skincare ingredients.

This approach reduces your risk of sensitive or inflamed skin, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or scarring, especially after laser treatments and chemical peels.

Delay Makeup Application

Hold off on wearing makeup for at least 24 to 48 hours or as long as you can after your treatment. This allows your skin to settle and reduces the risk of clogged pores or irritation. If you need coverage, use a tinted SPF or mineral-based product that won’t disrupt your healing process.

Schedule Regular Appointments

Your treatment journey doesn’t need to end after the first visit. Some treatments require regular sessions to maintain the best results. Anti-wrinkle injections need regular touch-ups every three to four months to maintain your desired look. Excel V+ laser treatments normally require six sessions, once a month and then ongoing maintenance to ensure continued results.

Certain treatments, such as laser hair removal or combination treatments, may require multiple sessions spaced out over time for optimal outcomes. Regular sessions and check-ins help track progress and ensure your results develop as expected.

Maintaining your results often means planning ahead for regular treatments. To make ongoing care more affordable and stress-free, we offer flexible membership plans and treatment packages. These options help you stay consistent with top-ups and skincare treatments, while saving money in the long run.
