Your acne treatment will begin with a thorough skin consultation at our Birmingham clinic. You’ll initially have a consultation with one of our highly experienced aesthetic practitioners to discuss your skin concerns and treatment options. If AviClear is the most suitable treatment you will then see one of our doctors or nurses who will assess the severity of your acne, skin type and medical history to ensure AviClear is the right choice for you. They will be able to prescribe any oral or topical antibiotics and medication to go alongside your laser treatment. From there, your aesthetician will create a personalised treatment plan, which is typically a course of three 30-minute sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart.

Your skin is thoroughly cleansed and acetone is applied to the skin to ensure the area is completely clean and degreased so that the laser is as effective as possible. The AviClear 1726 nm laser is then applied to targeted areas. No anaesthetic or numbing cream is required, as its built-in cooling technology keeps your skin comfortable throughout. However, if patients do find the treatment uncomfortable, we can apply a numbing cream to make the treatment more comfortable. Most patients describe the sensation as a mild snapping or warm tingling. Each session lasts around 30 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area.

To understand how the AviClear treatment works, it’s important to know what causes acne. Acne forms when sebum, the oily substance on your skin, combines with dead skin cells and clogs your pores. Most acne treatments target other factors that cause acne, but not the actual source. AviClear uses laser light to selectively target and suppress sebaceous glands, eliminating acne at its source without the need for prescription medications.
Since the laser only targets the specific area of acne instead of the whole body, side effects are minimal. You may find your skin is red and sensitive for a short period of time post treatment, however, the redness should go away in 1-3 days.
AviClear is equipped with exclusive AviCool™ skin cooling and sensory controls that maintain your skin’s temperature for a more comfortable experience. During the treatment, you may feel a slight snapping sensation. In clinical studies, patients tolerated the treatment well, without the need for pain mitigation or the need to stop the treatment session.
